How to install Split Core Current Transformers?
Apr 07, 2025| 1. Preparation before installation
1. Confirm the model and specifications of the transformer:
Confirm that the model and specifications of Split Core Current Transformers meet the requirements of the power system to avoid quality problems that bring risks to the power system.
Select the corresponding specification product according to parameters such as primary current and busbar section.
2. Check the installation site:
Confirm that the ground at the installation site is flat and stable, and check the line laying of the power system.
Confirm whether the location where the transformer is installed meets the requirements of the power system to ensure the rationality of its installation.
3. Lightning protection:
Perform lightning protection on the site where the transformer is installed to ensure that the transformer is not affected by lightning during operation.
2. Installation steps
1. Check the structure of the transformer:
Understand the structure of Split Core Current Transformers, including key information such as the type, length, connection method and installation location of the sensor and cable.
2. Ensure that the opening width matches the cable:
Ensure that the opening width of the sensor matches the size of the cable. For non-compliance, it can be solved by adding cable connectors.
3. Disconnect the power supply:
Before installing the transformer, make sure that the switches, instruments and related equipment of the power system are turned off.
4. Fix the transformer:
Fix the body of the transformer on the ground or on the cable tray, and connect the transformer terminal according to the design requirements.
5. Connect the cable:
Wire the cable to the transformer, fix the cable with a cable connector, and hang and tighten the cable several times to test their strength and firmness.
6. Connect the secondary wiring:
Open the flap, make the secondary wiring through the wire pressing piece, and reset the flap after the secondary wiring is led out.
The metering electric energy can be directly sealed with lead stamp using the small hole of the flap to prevent electricity theft.
7. Connect to the terminal row:
Connect the wiring lead-out port of the transformer to the established terminal row.
8. Check the installation process and standards:
Check the installation process and standards of the transformer, confirm that the working performance and safety of the transformer meet the requirements, and verify the relevant parameters.
3. Installation precautions
1. Secondary wiring:
Before installation, the secondary of the transformer must be connected to the meter (or other measuring device) to ensure that the secondary of the transformer is not open.
The secondary wiring should be firm and reliable to avoid looseness or poor contact.
2. Live installation:
If the primary busbar on site is a cable, live installation can be carried out; if the primary busbar is a copper bar, live operation requires a high level of proficiency for the operator and requires good insulation protection measures.
3. Cleaning of the core section:
When installing the transformer, no foreign matter such as impurities and dust should fall into the core section to avoid affecting the performance of the transformer.
4. Working current limit:
The working current does not exceed 1.1 times the rated value for a long time, and it is allowed to be used for a short time at 1.2 times the rated value for no more than 1 hour.
5. Polarity connection:
Ensure that the polarity connection of the transformer is correct, the primary wiring is marked P1, P2, and the corresponding secondary wiring is marked S1, S2, S1 represents the same-name end of P1, and S2 represents the same-name end of P2.
6. Load limit:
When the installation location of the instrument is far away from the current transformer or the circuit load is large, the secondary current specification of 1A should be used first.
7. Window size matching:
Note that according to the specifications and number of busbars, select a transformer with a matching window size.
