Introduction to open type current transformer

Jan 26, 2024|

Open-core current transformer is a sensor used to measure current. It usually consists of a ring-shaped magnetic core that can be opened and pass the current being measured through a central hole in the core.
The working principle of open current transformers is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When the current being measured passes through the central hole of the magnetic core, it generates a magnetic field in the core. The secondary coil of the transformer is wound around the outside of the magnetic core and generates secondary current by inducing a magnetic field. The magnitude of the secondary current is proportional to the measured current.
The design of this sensor allows it to measure current without requiring direct contact with the circuit. Its opening design makes installation and maintenance easier as there is no need to disconnect the circuit. In addition, open-type current transformers also have high linearity and low phase error, making them a commonly used current measurement device in power systems.
Open current transformers are widely used in fields such as energy metering, protective relays, and current monitoring in power systems. In power systems, they are often used to measure and monitor the current in high-voltage power grids to ensure the safe operation of the system.
The open-type current transformer is a convenient, accurate and reliable current measurement device, and its open design makes it widely used in power systems.
