Precautions for the use of current transformers

Feb 10, 2022|

1. Select the rated current ratio of the current transformer according to the magnitude of the measured current, that is, to make the primary rated current of the current transformer greater than the measured current. This is the most important point in choosing a current transformer. In addition, pay attention to the rated voltage of the current transformer, and select it in accordance with the line voltage in which it is used.

2. The AC ammeter used in conjunction with the current transformer should choose a range of 5 amps. The scale of this type of ammeter, which is usually used in conjunction with the current transformer, is scaled according to the rated current of the primary coil of the current transformer. Such an ammeter indicates the rated current transformer ratio of the current transformer that should be used. When choosing this ammeter, it must be used with the corresponding current transformer.

3. Make sure that the power consumed by the measuring instrument does not exceed the rated capacity of the current transformer.

4. The primary of the current transformer is connected to the circuit under test in series, and its secondary is connected to the measuring instrument.

5. The secondary and iron core of the current transformer must be grounded reliably.

6. The secondary of the current transformer is absolutely not allowed to open circuit.
