Three major functions of current transformer
Dec 15, 2023| 1. Expand the measuring range of AC instruments
Because the current transformer is made based on the principle of a transformer, it has a certain current ratio. When using electricity, the amount of current needs to be determined based on the amount of electricity. For example, large enterprises require relatively large currents, and ordinary Single-phase electricity meters and three-phase electricity meters cannot withstand large currents, and using current transformers can effectively turn large currents into small currents, so that instruments with a relatively small range can be used to detect the results.
2. Reduce production costs and standardize instruments
When producing instruments, it is very important to standardize the instruments. Since the secondary current of the current transformer is uniformly made into a standard 5A, the instrument manufacturer must produce an AC ammeter with a range of 5A when producing instruments. That's it. If you don't raise it, you can't standardize the production of instruments, and you can reduce production costs.
3. Isolate large currents and reduce hidden dangers
From the structure of the current transformer, we can know that its primary side and secondary side are not directly connected to electrical appliances, but are only coupled by the magnetic circuit. When large currents need to be measured, the primary side and the measurement circuit are directly connected. Yes, but the secondary side needs to be connected to the instrument, so it has no direct connection with the circuit being measured. In this way, when personnel are operating, they will not be in direct contact with high-voltage electricity, which not only protects the performance of the instrument , also ensures the safety of thermal operators.
