What are the ways to determine the saturation point of the current transformer?
Dec 23, 2019| During the operation of the current transformer, a problem of saturation point is involved. Since this will directly affect the correctness of the current transformer protection action, it must be determined. In practical applications, which test methods can be used to detect the saturation point of the current transformer?
The more direct way to determine is that the secondary side has the actual load, that is, the current is applied to the current transformer from the primary side, and the secondary current is observed to find the saturation point of the current transformer. However, since the saturation point of the protection level current transformer may exceed 15 to 20 times the rated current, this test method is not suitable when the current transformer becomes relatively large.
In this regard, the saturation point of the current transformer can also be measured by the volt-ampere characteristic test, which is caused by the excessive magnetic flux density of the current transformer. Therefore, as long as the original open circuit, the current is passed from the secondary side, and the voltage drop across the secondary winding is measured, the saturation point of the current transformer can be detected.
