How to ensure grounding safety when installing a current transformer?

Jun 09, 2025|

Grounding requirements
1. Capacitor-type insulated current transformer: The lead-out terminal of its end screen should be reliably grounded.
2. Current transformer housing: The housing of the current transformer should be reliably grounded.
3. Secondary winding protective grounding: Each secondary winding (including spare) of the current transformer must have reliable protective grounding, and only one grounding point is allowed.
Grounding operation steps
1. Select a suitable grounding point: Ensure that the grounding point has good contact and can be quickly introduced to the earth.
2. Use suitable wires: Use wires with sufficient cross-sectional area and good insulation for grounding.
3. Avoid multi-point grounding: During the grounding process, ensure that multi-point grounding is avoided to avoid equipment damage or misoperation.
4. Regular inspection and maintenance: After grounding is completed, the grounding status should be checked regularly to ensure that it always maintains a good working condition.
Precautions
1. Grounding resistance requirements: The grounding resistance should meet the requirements of relevant standards. Good grounding can effectively prevent the transformer from leaking and other safety hazards during operation.
2. Grounding wire color distinction: Different groundings are distinguished by color, such as yellow-green stripes for working grounding and black for protective grounding.
3. The cross-section of the grounding wire meets the standard: for example, the copper bare wire of a 380V distribution box is greater than 4mm².
4. The height of the grounding wire from the ground: The grounding wire is 250-300mm from the ground.
