How to properly maintain the current transformer?
Jul 04, 2025| 1. Regular inspection
Appearance inspection: Regularly check the appearance of the current transformer to ensure that there are no cracks, deformation, corrosion, etc. on its surface.
Wiring inspection: Check whether the terminal is loose, corroded or broken to ensure that the connection is firm.
Insulation inspection: Regularly measure the insulation resistance to ensure that its insulation performance is good. If the insulation resistance value is found to be lower than the specified standard, find the cause and deal with it in time.
2. Cleaning work
Internal cleaning: Regularly clean the inside of the current transformer to avoid dust or moisture affecting its working performance. Use a clean brush or soft cloth for cleaning, and avoid direct cleaning with water.
External cleaning: Keep the outside of the current transformer clean to avoid dust accumulation affecting the heat dissipation performance.
3. Prevent overload
Reasonable selection of capacity: Reasonably select the rated capacity of the current transformer according to the actual load current, and reserve a certain margin.
Monitor load current: Real-time monitoring of the load current of the current transformer. When it is found to be close to or exceed the rated current, adjust the load in time or replace the transformer with a larger capacity.
4. Avoid open circuit on the secondary side
Operation specification: When performing inspection and maintenance of the secondary circuit, strictly follow the operation procedures to ensure that the secondary circuit is always in a closed circuit state.
Install protection device: Install a protection device to prevent open circuit in the secondary circuit. Once there is an open circuit sign on the secondary side, the protection device can be activated in time.
5. Improve the operating environment
Cooling measures: If the current transformer operates in a high temperature environment, heat dissipation measures can be taken, such as installing a heat sink or ventilation device.
Moisture-proof measures: For current transformers operating in a humid environment, moisture-proof measures should be taken, such as using a casing with good sealing performance and placing a desiccant inside.
6. Regular calibration
Full calibration: According to relevant standards and regulations, the current transformer should be calibrated regularly, generally once every 3-5 years.
Abnormal calibration: If the measurement result of the current transformer is found to be abnormal during operation, it should be calibrated in time to find out the problem and solve it.
7. Prevent moisture
Sealing inspection: Ensure that the sealing performance of the current transformer is good to prevent external water vapor from entering the interior.
Desiccant usage: In an environment with high humidity, desiccant can be placed inside the current transformer.
