The purpose of Electrical Current Transformer and precautions when using it

Oct 24, 2021|

The working principle of Electrical Current Transformer is similar to that of transformer, and its main structure is composed of iron core, primary winding, secondary winding, lead wire, and insulation structure. The difference is that the number of turns of the primary winding of the Electrical Current Transformer is very small, only a few turns, or even one turn. When in use, the primary winding is connected in series in the current loop under test, and the current passing through the primary winding is the current of the circuit under test. Its magnitude does not depend on the Electrical Current Transformer and its secondary load, but only depends on the load status of the circuit under test. The number of turns of the secondary winding is more than that of the primary winding, ranging from dozens of turns to hundreds of turns, depending on the size of the converter ratio. The secondary side of the Electrical Current Transformer is used in series with the current coils of measuring instruments and relays. The impedance of the secondary load is very small and close to a short-circuit state, which is equivalent to a short-circuited transformer.

The main function of the Electrical Current Transformer company Electrical Current Transformer is to change the large current into a small current suitable for electrical measuring instruments and relay protection. In high-voltage systems, Electrical Current Transformer isolates the current loops of electrical instruments and relays from high-voltage conductive loops to ensure the safety of measuring instruments and relays, and to ensure personal safety when working on measuring instruments and relay protection.

The secondary side of Electrical Current Transformer Company Electrical Current Transformer is not allowed to operate in an open circuit. If the secondary side of the Electrical Current Transformer is open, the magnetic flux in the iron core increases sharply with the increase of the primary current, which not only causes serious saturation of the iron core, but also induces a high voltage on the secondary side, which will insulate the secondary circuit. Serious harm, even breakdown and burnout; at this time, if someone touches the secondary circuit, it will easily cause electric shock.

When the secondary side of the Electrical Current Transformer is open, not only is the large magnetic flux in the iron core induces a high voltage on the secondary side, but also because the iron core is saturated, the gradient of the magnetic induction intensity curve increases, causing the secondary side induced electromotive force to appear very high. The high peak wave, its voltage amplitude can reach the dangerous value of 2-3KV. Therefore, the Electrical Current Transformer does not allow a secondary open circuit during operation.
